Nicole Trigg was my direct supervisor for nearly four years at the Columbia Valley Pioneer. She consistently displayed an outstanding ability to juggle multiple projects on tight deadlines, in demanding and frequently stressful circumstances, all to a remarkable level of excellence. A key part of Nicole’s success during this period (and throughout the four years I worked for her) was her incisive human resource and staff management. Faced with considerable staffing constraints, Nicole came up with innovative solutions. She brought out the best in those she managed — on multiple occasions she coached staff to significantly better performances, redeployed them to different tasks better suited to their skills, and smoothly mitigated potential conflicts. Nicole was particularly good at helping her staff achieve a reasonable work-life balance in an industry notoriously bad in this regard, resulting in better staff retention, and a workplace that was far happier and much more motivated than average.
Steve Hubrecht, M.J., Senior Reporter
news Story Curation
Monitored news cycles to identify relevant and timely stories, curating critical information and resources for reporters, for acclaimed Invermere Valley Echo and Columbia Valley Pioneer weekly newspapers. Provided editorial direction, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with audience interests and the publication's voice while meeting tight deadlines for high-impact, current event coverage. Stories were frequently republished by other titles in the extensive Black Press network across southeastern B.C.
Feature Story Curation
Led the editorial direction for long-form, feature stories that delved into trends, human interest, and thought-provoking narratives. Worked closely with reporters, freelance writers and contributors to develop story ideas, provide background information, and ensure the articles resonated with the audience while aligning with editorial goals.
NEW Magazine Development
Conceived, developed, and launched new annual magazines that ran for multiple years. Provided editorial direction, content strategy, and creative vision to establish and sustain each publication. Below are selected editions from three different series as examples.
Publication Revitalization
Led editorial and creative direction for established magazines and publications, overseeing major redesigns to enhance content, visual appeal, and audience engagement.
